Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search box is sent directly to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. Marion County Criminal History does not keep or record those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or contact submission may be retained long enough to answer and manage the exchange. Messages remain within the site team unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, ordinary server and analytics systems can collect technical facts about the visit:
- Page-view dates and times
- The referring website, when one is available
- Pages opened and approximate time spent on them
- Device type and operating system
- Browser name and version
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files saved on a device. They help show broad use patterns, such as which pages receive traffic and where visits end. Analytics providers may combine this activity into reports. Browser controls can block cookies, although doing so may change how some features work.
What We Do With This Data
Collected data supports normal site operations and helps route requests correctly. It may be used for the following purposes:
- Diagnosing errors and other technical problems
- Measuring which information visitors use
- Keeping pages available and responsive
- Routing a search to the correct outside provider
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Marion County Criminal History does not maintain, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It identifies official routes through the Marion County Sheriff's Office, Marion County courts, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, and the Alabama Sex Offender Registry. The site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor data is not compiled into consumer reports or third-party criminal profiles.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the site's search boxes. Their privacy terms, retention rules, and sharing practices govern anything entered into those tools. Those policies are outside this site's control, so read the provider's terms before submitting a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to courts, sheriff pages, Alabama agencies, legal resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor follows one, the destination's privacy policy applies. Review it before providing personal information.
Some advertising providers may track activity across websites to select ads. That processing occurs on the provider's systems.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be disclosed to:
- Advertising networks that place ads on pages
- Analytics providers that measure traffic and performance
- Search providers that process a visitor's query
- Government or law-enforcement bodies when a valid legal order compels disclosure
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, standard safeguards are used for data under the site's control. No online system can promise perfect security, however, and a breach can never be ruled out completely.
Users Under 18
The service is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone younger than 18. A confirmed submission from a minor will be removed when brought to the site's attention.
Your Data Rights
Rights can vary with location and applicable law. Alabama's public-record and criminal-history rules, including Ala. Code § 36-12-40 and Ala. Code § 41-9-636, govern government records and repository dissemination rather than turning this private site into an official custodian. Visitors may still:
- Object to certain forms of processing
- Request deletion of data held about them
- Ask that inaccurate information be corrected
- Request a copy of personal data on file
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised as practices or legal duties change. A revised version will appear here with its new effective date.
